The treatments in Ayurveda focuses on bringing back the normalcy of functions of systems by various methods. The method is a process of changing the condition through different steps and there by establish the equilibrium of humours. In fact treatment is directed to perform a well planned rearrangement in the suitable plan according to Ayurveda.

Treatments in Ayurveda are of eight divisions. Treatments includes various types of therapies like medicated oil massage, preventive aspects like curative purification process using herbal medicines like juice of wet herbs, herbal pastes (kalka), kashayams (herbal decotions) medicated oils, medicated butter and ghee preparation, Arishtams (fermented preparations) etc.

Shirodhara

Shirodhara is traditionally used to calm the nerves. It is an ancient Ayurvedic healing practice performed in India for over 2,000 years. It is the application of warmed sesame oil (infused with herbs) gently poured onto the forehead for an extended period of time. It is performed with the client lying face up on a massage table in a relaxing environment.

Shirodhara is traditionally used to calm the nerves, harmonize vata constitutions, restore the nerves, release stored emotions, and purify the mind. In Ayurvedic Medicine, it is considered an important tool in the pursuit of higher states of consciousness. Shirodhara has been traditionally shown to help with fatigue, mental exhaustion, anxiety, insomnia, some mental disorders, headache, excessive thinking, nervousness, and many other conditions.

Reduction in stress, improved sleep, reduction in excessive thinking, calming of the emotions, release of negative emotions, improvement in insomnia, vivid dreaming, muscle relaxation, improvement in mood, centeredness, reduction in anxiety, alleviation of mental anguish, and a temporary blissful state.


Sirovasthi

Sirovasthi is highly effective for facial paralysis, dryness of nostrils, mouth and throat, severe headaches, burning sensation of head and other vatha originated diseases.Certain lukewarm medicated oil is applied to the entire head. A leather cap is then placed on the head to maintain the temperature. The course of treatment is effective for migraine, deafness, diseases affecting cranial nerves, facial paralysis, insanity, diseases and wounds etc. In fact this treatment is good for all diseases.




Pizhichil
Pizhichil is a special form of treatment which is a combination of oil massage and heat treatment. This therapy is also known as treatment for aristocrats. A gentle, synchronized massage is carried out under a constant flow of warm herbal oil. This Ayurveda treatment also involves squeezing a cloth soaked in oil over the body.

This Ayurveda treatment of Pizhichil has been highly valued by all and produces good results in case of joint problems and muscle tension.The duration of Pizhichil is decided by the Ayurveda experts after the body constitution of the individual has been determined. Pizhichil Treatment increases the blood circulation, nourishes muscles, nerves tissues and sexual ability. Pizhichil Ayurveda treatment is also effective for Paraplegia, Hemiplegia and general debility.

Nasyam
Nasyam is a ayurvedic treatment from the shoulders up the patients body is massaged causing it to perspire. The medicine in exact dose is measured and poured into the nostrils, as the patient inhales. During the process, the area around the nose, neck, shoulders, palms & feel are rubbed. This is very effective in ailments such as sinusitis, migraine, chronic cold and chest congestion.


Netra Tarpanam
NetraVasti (Netra Tarpanam) is another effective treatment used for treating various eye problems like short sight, long sight, drooping of the eye lids, Prevents eye-diseases, especially night-blindness and blurring of vision. Also sharpens vision, strengthens optic nerve and cools down irritated and stressed eyes. etc.
Navarakkizi
Navarakkizi is which the whole body or specific parts are made to sweat by the application of certain medicinal puddings made of rice, etc tied up as poultices in a muslin cloth. The therapeutic measure is so named because of the fat that poultices of cooked navara rice are used in the process. Navarakizhi is usually done on all skeletal and muscular diseases,paralysis, sciatica,etc.

and as an after treatment of Pizhichil. This helps to improve the general health also. To begin with, medicated oil prescribed by the physician is smeared on the head and body of the patient. The patient is thereafter made to lie on the board. Boluses of navara rice cooked in medicated decoction are soaked for a few minutes in warm medicated decoction and milk and gently massage the body with the rice bags. After a few minutes massage of the body, the patient is given a bath in moderately warm water.

Swedhana (Steam Bath)

Swedhana is a herbalised steam bath using specially selected herbs to suit your body type. This sweat inducing therapy reduces tension and allows release of impurities through the skin. Every part of the body except the head is exposed to herbal steam. This produces sweat, dilates the channels of the body and facilitates easy removal of impurities from the system

through excretory outlets like the sweat glands, kidney and liver. When done after a treatment, it also helps the absorption of medicinal particles present in the herbal oil. The steam bath gives greater flexibility and suppleness to the body and reduces stiffness and swelling. Body becomes light due to elimination of excess water.

Dhara

Dhara is a process in which medicated oil, milk, buttermilk, etc. are poured in a continuous stream on the patient's head. The patient is smeared with appropriate medicated oils on the body and head and made to lie on a specially designed wooden bed (Droni). A wide mouthed earthen vessel with a small hole at the bottom is hung above the head of the patient, so that the fibre wick hanging from the vessel is two inches

above the forehead. The special medicinal liquid poured into the vessel is made to flow in a continuous stream through the wick on to the upper part of the forehead. A clean piece of cloth is tied around the forehead to prevent the oil from dripping into the eyes. The oil is collected and poured back into the vessel and the process is continued for about 60 to 90 minutes. After the treatment is over, the patient is given bath in warm water.
